Project Runway: The Rant

You have been warned.

I am livid. Just livid.

There was a crime of fashion committed on PR last night, and it should be declared to all and sundry.

Rami won the right to go to Fashion Week on the basis of a single dress, not a collection, because no one liked the coat, and Nina didn't like the gown. In addition, it was a dress that exhibits exactly the same technique that he has used all through the competition and for the repetition of which the judges had repeatedly chastised him.

I call shenanigans.

In addition, Chris showed three looks that were different than anything he'd done before, that had cohesion as a collection, and that incorporated innovative, even provocative materials, and he was dismissed as "too costumey" and "over-designed". That's completely bogus, because there was nothing over-designed about the middle dress or IMHO about the gown. They simply featured unique materials that gave the pieces a very strong look.

I call shenanigans yet again.

Furthermore, the judges' reaction to the hair trim was pretentious and silly. Why is it all right to knot and clue hair extensions directly onto a model's head (or the head of an actress or a socialite), but it's somehow creepifying to use that same hair to trim a collar?

I call shenanigans a third time.

And finally, Michael Kors made such a big honkin' deal about the way Chris' model walked in his gown--I believe the word "condom" was used--and not one damn word was said about the fact that Rami's model only managed to make it down the runway in his gown by holding the skirt up off the floor.

I'm not calling shenanigans anymore. I'm going straight to bullshit. Pardon my French.

Livid, I tell you. Just livid.

Yay Min! Concur with your opinion. I also thought Rami played off of Jill's idea of femininizing military uniform from the Art Museum Challenge. Duh!

And yep, the translation of Kris' work to daily fashion would be to use fake fur, or yarn fringe - not such a big stretch.

Aha, Project Runway, another thing we have in common, Min! (Yeah, it's sukinova from LJ.)

I thought Rami's work was boring. And they've made it clear in season after season that they want the designers to go for exciting looks and Chris' work was amazingly exciting. And Kors wasn't squikked by the human hair; he was fascinated by it and complimented how well it worked to make cheap fabric look like fur. I think they went with Rami because one flaming queen (Christian) is all they'll allow on the runway in a single season.

If they so wanted Rami up there, they should have done what they did last season and put four designers' shows on.

Then again, I was shocked when Uli didn't win last season. Complete strangers were walking up to the judges asking where they could find Uli's work for sale.

Heh heh heh...I hev my vayz.

Seriously, though? I found it in a Google search and can't remember exactly what I was searching.

My friend Anna and I go out once every couple of weeks to bitch about Project Runway. I liked Sweet P and Chris, and find Rami boring. She likes Christian and Chris and finds Rami boring. Basically, we're anti-Rami, even moreso now that he's managed to boot two of our favorites off.

Have you seen the Canadian version? They're SO DAMN NICE! Canadians...what can we say?

That's okay. I found a couple of blogs that I currently watch the same way. :-)

And I agree...TLo were more interesting and entertaining than a lot of this season's PR.
