Yesterday, I bought two sets of paper dolls on Ebay. They're reprints of vintage celebrity paper dolls.
Dorothy Lamour
Ava Gardner
Now, I know what you're thinking..."Min, you're too old to play with paper dolls." To which I say three things.
(1) "Nonsense."
(2) "Sez who?"
(3) "Yo momma."
And my momma is the reason I wanted them. When I was a little girl, I would go to my Grandmother Loraine's house and play with my mother's old paper dolls. She kept them in a large, shallow gold foil box, and they were all movie stars...Esther Williams, Deanna Durbin, Ava Gardner, and the like. There weren't any complete sets of dolls and clothes, and some of the dolls were missing arms and heads, but I loved them. And I especially loved the clothes that my mother had drawn and carefully colored with crayons.
So I bought myself some paper dolls. I may keep them, or I may send a set to the little girl I sponsor in Bolivia. I haven't decided yet.

Yay for you. Of course they can do double duty, you play with them for awhile, then send them on to another free spirited girl and pass on the joy. Wouldn't you love to get them with a note saying "I've so enjoyed playing with these dolls and want to share the fun with you."
Yep, that's good.
have fun, Jane
Oh and you can maybe take photos of your hats, reduce them to doll size, cut them out and let the dolls wear them. YES!
What a brilliant idea!
I love paper dolls. My girls liked them a little, but would much rather be outside running with the neighbor children/friends.
When I was little, I loved the Katy Keene comic books, also. They would have Katy paper dolls in each issue.
I designed and drew fashions for my paper dolls, too. It was great fun! My grands don't like playing paper dolls - they are too busy doing all the new stuff. Paper dolls are old-fashioned! Oh, well, great memories for me.
Me, too. When I was in elementary school, we would free-hand paper dolls and entire wardrobes on notebook paper, then cut them out and play with them during our free time.
Good times. Good times. :-)
Somewhere out there (see last friday's link on Dressaday) there is a paperdoll blog. The blogger has a link to the doll and then makes a dress or outfit every day for the doll. Cool huh?
Yeah, I made my own paperdoll clothes as a kid,and kept them in a gold cardboard box too. Love it!
I love the fashions of the late 1930s and early 1940s as worn by Deanna Durbin. See Deanna wearing these great clothes. Just copy and paste the following link in your web browser:
